The Russian museum of ethnography is honored to invite visitors and amateur of weapon to an exhibition "Caucasian weapon: private collections from the past and the present" By the amount and the level of objects, this exhibition has no analogs. More than 350 items from 10 private collections from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Krasnodar territory, Stavropol and Cherkessk are presented to the public. The photo-exhibition is dedicated to Sergeiy Sergel` (1883-1955) - ethnographer, traveler, writer, one of the first researchers of the traditional culture of Komi and foreign Saams. He was one of the founders of the Russian museum of Ethnography.

In 1906-1908 S. Sergel` worked in two ethnographic expeditions at Komi Ziyryans, Vologdskaya province and Saams (Lapps) from Norway and Finland. During these trips he gathered unique collection of utensils and photos. Photos, which are the majority of this collection, are the most valuable ethnographic source. They represent the visual encyclopedia of traditional live which had become a thing of the past. “I make my way to the inland of unknown countries….”(S. Ministry of the Culture of the Russian Federation, The Russian museum of ethnography, The Committee on culture of the government of St-Petersburg and "PAN-THEATER", from December 25th 2010 till January 16th 2011 presented the ninth St-Petersburgs' gathering of the theaters "Christmas mystery".

Our grandfathers and grandmothers celebrated Christmastide differently then we do it now. The Christmastide was the great day and a big feast. Would you like to see how it was?

Russian traditional costume

The new permanent exhibition "Russian Traditional Costume was opened to public in December 27 2008. It includes 32 women's, men's, and children's costumes, some details, accessories, and ornaments, dated by 19-early 20 centuries. They all are authentic objects of Russian people's daily, which came to museum upon the ethnographic expeditions, organized between 1902- 2000 years. Russian traditional costume
The First Ethnographic Exhibition

The exhibition displayed a total of about 300 mannequins in traditional costumes, 450 sets and articles of clothing, 1,100 household objects, as well as musical instruments, scale models of structures and implements, lubok popular prints and 1,600 photographs. The First Ethnographic Exhibition
