What's the Friends' Club?

is a unique world historical and cultural monument which celebrated its 100dth Anniversary in 2002. It is housed in a building specially constructed for the Ethnographic Department by the architect Vasily Svin'in.

The Museum collections number above half a million exhibits reflecting the traditional culture of 157 peoples of Russia from the 18th-20th centuries. The museum collections reveal all aspects of the life of the peoples of our country: their main occupations and handicrafts, dwellings and clothing, beliefs, rituals and festivals. Each of the museum complexes has its own inimitable features and national colour characteristic only of a certain people.

Because of the bad present condition of the museum storages and financial precariousness of some programs, the museum is unable to function properly.

Our main programs of Museum development:

  • Restoration of exhibits;
  • Replenishment of museum collections;
  • Publishing activity;
  • Educational programs;
  • Reconstruction of unique premises;
  • Restoration of the fasade of the Museum building.

The Russian Museum of Ethnography will be grateful for any contribution made by you in person or by your company both in terms of money and in services.

We hope for our fruitful cooperation.
