Following the steps of old ceramics

The Russian Museum of Ethnography and "The Potter Guild of Vilnius" invite you to the exhibition ""Following the steps of old ceramics - IV ".

On display at the exhibition are the works of the members of the summer camps, which are held every year since 2004 on the peninsula Trakai (25 km from Vilnius), near an ancient castle.

Every year the participants undertook the task to study and reconstruct different geographical and chronological particularities of the Neolithic period in Lithuania: in 2004 there was a thorough research on the problem of manufacturing the ceramics of Neolithic Narva age culture, the year 2005 was dedicated to the cultures of Narva and pebble ceramics and the whole year 2007 was consecrated to the culture of pebble ceramics.

Different representatives from different countries took part in the summer camp: Norway, USA, Japan, Latvia. A unique experience of reconstruction of the archeological ceramics, presented at the exhibition, deepens and improves our knowledge on the subject. It is also important that the research projects of "The Vilnius Guild of Potters" contribute to the promotion of the ancient culture heritage of the Baltic states and the North-West region of Russian Federation.

Exhibition organizers: Eliana Alexeeva and Dainus Strazdas, adviser of the experimental camp - archeologist Sigute Mikshaite.

During the opening of the exhibition in The Russian Museum of Ethnography our craftsmen will show the process of making the equivalents of the Neolithic ceramics of Lithuania.
