An exhibition "Textile on the Great Silk Route" prepared by the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg is open in the Museum of Ethnology of Valencia (Spain) on the 14th of December, 2011.

An exhibition "Textile on the Great Silk Route" prepared by the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg is open in the Museum of Ethnology of Valencia (Spain) on the 14th of December, 2011. On display at the exhibition are the excellent textile products which represent the most important examples of craftsmanship of the peoples of Central Asia and Caucasus. The exhibition also illustrates various instruments and techniques used by folk craftsmen as well as samples of printed fabrics, embroidery items, carpets and complete sets of clothing of different peoples. Materials of the central room give an idea of the eastern bazaar. Specific feature of the Caucasus and Central Asia was combination of an original town culture with the world of nomadic and mountain peoples lived around the cities. The interior of Azerbaijani house and Kazakh nomadic dwelling allow a visitor to compare two different parts of the civilization. A separate section of the exhibition shows the using of silk and woolen fabrics in the festive and religious rituals.
The exhibition will be open till the end of May, 2012
