Welcome to the Friends' Club
RUSSIAN MUSEUM OF ETHNOGRAPHY
is a unique world historical and cultural monument which celebrated its 100dth Anniversary in 2002. It is housed in a building specially constructed for the Ethnographic Department by the architect Vasily Svin'in.
The Museum collections number above half a million exhibits reflecting the traditional culture of 157 peoples of Russia from the 18th-20th centuries.
The museum collections reveal all aspects of the life of the peoples of our country: their main occupations and handicrafts, dwellings and clothing, beliefs, rituals and festivals. Each of the museum complexes has its own inimitable features and national colour characteristic only of a certain people.
Because of the bad present condition of the museum storages and financial precariousness of some programs, the museum is unable to function properly.
