The third meeting of Friend`s clud
On the 22 th of October the Third meeting of the Friends` Club took place in the Russian Museum of Ethnography. This time the meeting was devoted to the Tatar culture. The Russian Museum of Ethnography received his ancient friends, members of the museum since its very beginning as well as representatives of Tatar communities of Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, businessmen and cultural workers. Many of them became members of the Friends` Club at this meeting.
The organizers prepared and presented to the guests 4 mini-exhibitions showing the classic and the contemporary Tatar art starting from the traditional man`s and woman`s clothing ensembles of Tatars of Kazan region which existed in the end of the 19 century-the beginning if the 20th to the contemporary Tatar art of Saint-Petersburg. Ziakaev family (Akhnav Ziakaev, Asia Ziakaeva and Danno Ziakaev) and Gubaydulin family (Raushan Gubaydulin) presented to the public a small collection of paintings and the sculptor Vinera Abdullina showed a collection of works from her studio.
Tatar culture was not just a random choice of the meeting main subject. The Tatar collection of the Russian Museum of Ethnography numbers near 3 500 objects, and is one of our biggest collections. A big part of this collection is the gifts of museum sponsors. This time the Tatar collection increased owing to Giniyatulov Gjamil Rasyhovich who made a donation to the museum: a painting "Old stones" by Marat Vafin.
The chief of the department of Volga region Elena Kolchina made a special guided tour round the Tatar collection and told about the long tradition that existed in the Royal family to support the museum. One of the important imperial donations was a dress given by Maria Feodorovna. This dress was shown at the small exhibition of objects to be restored.
At this meeting the director of the Russian Museum of Ethnography summed up the Club's work which was carried out during the last year. He thanked new members of the Friends` Club for their activity in the support of the heritage and the history in our multicultural country.
