22.03 – 25.03.2010. Navruz in the Russian Museum of Ethnography.
These days are to be as jovial and festive as can be, in the hopes that nature will be that much more benevolent. In many countries Navruz is considered a national holiday and a time for people to remember their cultural heritage, national customs, and the traditions of their ancestors.
Coinciding with the celebration of Navruz from 22-25 of March the Russian Museum of Ethnography is exhibiting "The Yurt -Home and Universe of the Nomad." In recognition of Saint Petersburg's tricentennial celebration in 2003 President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev presented the museum with the yurt to be on display to residents and guests of the city. Constructed by 21st century craftsmen, the yurt is assembled in accordance with traditional methods, which reveal the cultural continuity in different generations of Kyrgzstani people. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to go inside the dwelling and observe the special atmosphere of a space that offers-in the model of his universe-a new appreciation of the nomad.
In all times the yurt has been considered a center for good beginnings, and the one given to the museum was a symbolic gift of great value. For our multicultural city this exhibition will also be a symbol of friendship and respect to cultural values of every nation.
