Session of the Advanced Curatorial Educational Programme at the Russian Museum of Ethnography of the Association of European Jewish Museums
The session of the Advanced Curatorial Educational Programme (A-SEP) of the Association of European Jewish Museums (AEJM) took place at the Russian Museum of Ethnography on September 19, 2016. It was attended by 20 leading specialists in material and intangible Jewish heritage from the largest research centers, state and private museums of Israel, Germany, Austria, France, Netherlands, Norway, Greece, Italy, Russia, Georgia and Lithuania.
At the beginning of meeting after welcome words of the RME Deputy Director and Chief Curator Natalya Prokopieva the participants of the A-SEP were invited to introductory excursion on the RME permanent exhibition. Particular attention was paid to the section representing cultural heritage of the Jewish people on the territory of the former Russian empire. Then N. Prokopieva and the Programme Director Dr. Felicitas Heimann-Jelinek made thematic presentations “An-Sky Heritage at the Russian Museum of Ethnography” and “The Jewish Wedding Rings” respectively. Now these presentations are available at the official website of the AEJM: www.aejm.org (previous registration at the AEJM forum is required). Later the participants of event visited museum storages where non-exhibited pieces of traditional Jewish culture dated to late XIX-early XX centuries are kept and the Treasure Chamber, where the items made of precious metals (gold and silver) including the objects of Judaic cult are on permanent display. The meeting finished with closing discussion of its results.
